Edmon Roch (Co-Producer)
Roch reteams with Whit Stillman for THE LAST DAYS OF DISCO, having previously served as Associate Producer (with Cecilia Roque) of BARCELONA.
Born in Girona, Spain, Roch earned a Ph.D. in the History of Contemporary Art at the University of Barcelona, and subsequently worked as a journalist. His work in feature films has been in many trades. His screenplay TIC-TAC became a Spanish film directed by Rosa Verges, and was an Official Selection in the 1997 Berlin Film Festival. As the production manager for Jean-Jacques Annauds SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET, starring Brad Pitt, he supervised a production that lensed in a half-dozen countries, including France, England, Argentina and the United States. His additional international production credits include THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT, ONE TIME, TWO DESIRES, and THE PARIS EXPRESS.
He has served as producer, writer and director of several short films, including LOVE WAITS, BLOOD, ANSWERING MACHINE and THE HUNT. Roch co-wrote and produced the documentary AWAY FROM THE FLOCK.
Cecilia Kate Roque (Co-Producer)
After graduating from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, Roque then attended New York Universitys Graduate Institute of Film and Television. Roque also reteams with Whit Stillman for THE LAST DAYS OF DISCO, having previously served as Associate Producer of BARCELONA.
She co-produced Alan Wades JULIAN PO and produced the CBS Schoolbreak Special entitled FLOUR BABIES. Her credits as a production manager include, most recently, David Mamets THE SPANISH PRISONER; JOES APARTMENT, THE PROFESSIONAL, THE MUSIC OF CHANCE, SIMPLE MEN and SURVIVING DESIRE (both directed by Hal Hartley), HARD PROMISES and THE SUNSET GANG.
John Sloss (Executive Producer)
Sloss is an attorney with experience in all areas of motion picture financing, production and distribution. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1978, and received his law degree from the University of Michigan School of Law in 1981. In March 1993, he left his partnership at the international law firm of Morrison & Foerster to form Sloss Law Office, P.C., a law firm providing counsel in business transactions for the entertainment, sports and media industries.
In addition to representing a large number of motion picture producers, directors and writers, he has served as executive producer on numerous films: John Sayles CITY OF HOPE, PASSION FISH, THE SECRET OF ROAN INISH, LONE STAR, and the recent MEN WITH GUNS; Maggie Greenwalds THE BALLAD OF LITTLE JOE; Richard Linklaters BEFORE SUNRISE, SUBURBIA, and the recent THE NEWTON BOYS, Michael Correntes AMERICAN BUFFALO; and Edward Burns SHES THE ONE and the recent NO LOOKING BACK.
Sloss also serves as team counsel to the National Basketball Associations New Jersey Nets.
John Thomas (Cinematographer)
Born in Akron, Ohio, Thomas graduated Hiram College, and then studied cinematography at New York Universitys graduate film school.
Thomas marks his third collaboration with Whit Stillman on THE LAST DAYS OF DISCO, having served as Director of Photography on METROPOLITAN and BARCELONA, for which he received the 1995 Independent Spirit Award for Best Cinematography. Among Thomas feature film credits are three other 1998 releases, STILL BREATHING, DEAD MAN ON CAMPUS, and HI-LIFE. His other film work includes KICKED IN THE HEAD, FREEWAY, and THE NIGHT WE NEVER MET.
His television credits include the HBO telefilm NORMA JEAN AND MARILYN for which he received a 1996 Emmy Award nomination; CBS EARLY EDITION ; and the Switch episode of NBCs LAW AND ORDER.
Ginger Tougas (Production Designer)
Ginger Tougas graduated from Brown University with degrees in both Studio Art and Art History. She has gone on to feature film careers as both an art director and a production designer. As art director, her credits include the forthcoming LIVING OUT LOUD as well as ONE NIGHT STAND, THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK, IM NOT RAPPAPORT, AMATEUR, THE BALLAD OF LITTLE JO and IN THE SOUP. As production designer, her credits include IF LUCY FELL and THE INCREDIBLY TRUE ADVENTURE OF TWO GIRLS IN LOVE.
Andrew Hafitz (Editor)
Hafitz first worked with Whit Stillman as an assistant editor on BARCELONA.
His credits as film editor include SLIM, a documentary short; and TOUGH, a short film. Hafitz worked as first assistant editor on KIDS and ROBINSON CRUSOE, starring Pierce Brosnan. The Yale University graduate also worked on SENSE AND SENSIBLITY, DEAD PRESIDENTS, IRON WILL and JUMPIN AT THE BONEYARD. Prior to his film career, he worked in book publishing.
Jay Pires (Editor)
Pires first collaborated with Whit Stillman as editor on THE HEART OF SATURDAY NIGHT, the 1996 episode of NBCs HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET that Stillman directed. He also served as Editor of NBCs HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET during the 1996-1997 season. The previous (1995-1996) season, he had worked on the series as Assistant Editor, moving up to Editor with the season finale. The University of London graduates other credits include serving as Assistant Editor on Ken Burns PBS documentary miniseries THE WEST.
Mark Suozzo (Music Composer)
Suozzo comes to THE LAST DAYS OF DISCO after scoring Whit Stillmans previous films, METROPOLITAN and BARCELONA. He has also done the music for the feature films NICK AND JANE, the award-winning documentary OFF THE MENU - THE LAST DAYS OF CHASENS, and Jan Oxenbergs documentary THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT!
Suozzo has written and produced music for commercials, industrial films and childrens television (with scores for PBS SESAME STREET and Nickelodeons EUREKA CASTLE). His music was heard on television during the 1996 Summer Olympic Games (broadcast on NBC), and he provided orchestrations for the Hallmark Entertainment/ABC production of BYE, BYE BIRDIE. His concert work has included arrangements for Skitch Henderson and The New York Pops Orchestra, Cissy Houston, Jennifer Holliday, Lesley Gore, The Manhattan Rhythm Kings, and the late Peter Allen, among others.
John Carrafa (Choreographer)
Carrafa served as choreographer of the (Broadway) stage and film productions of the play LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION! His other film credits include ROOFTOPS, SING, BRAIN DONORS, THE NIGHT WE NEVER MET, IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU, and CITY HALL. Carrafas stage work includes COMFORTABLE SHOES, OUT OF THIS WORLD, HIM, THE SNOW BALL, CAPTAIN COURAGEOUS WEIRD ROMANCE, THE SECRET GARDEN, CLUB SODA, BELLA, and LUCYS LAPSES.
